Take a walk on the wild side with National Parks Quarters

By MintState

Taking a stroll through America’s national treasures no longer requires a backpack.

With the introduction of the National Parks Quarter series in 2010, the U.S. Mint began offering coin collectors an opportunity to explore our country’s wild side while incorporating their hobby at the same time. Scheduled to run through at least 2021, the 56-coin collection – also known as the America the Beautiful series – provides a peek inside some of the jewels of the National Parks system, with coins already featuring well-known stops such as the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. Future coins will include passes through the Great Smokey Mountains, a tour of the Everglades swamp and a visit to Voyageurs National Park.

To celebrate the collection, Coins of America has put together a handful of offerings to honor the National Parks Quarters, giving everyone from the casual fan to hardcore nature lovers a chance to snag a piece of the series. For starters, check out the 2012 National Parks Quarters Annual Pack, which provides all five of the quarters issued for that year’s mintage, including pieces that commemorate El Yunque, Chaco Culture, Denali, Acadia and the Hawaii Volcanoes parks. The Annual Pack not only provides collectors with two coins from each National Park – one piece from the Denver and Philadelphia mints – but also features the pairing in an attractive tri-fold display that outlines the history and fun facts about that particular national park.

As that collection grows, hobbyists can stow their tri-fold displays in the National Parks Quarters Collectors Box, a unique kit that serves both as an excellent way to stow the folders but also includes a decorative map detailing each site featured in the series. Those hoping to acquire the entire collection can also turn their attention to the National Parks Quarters Club Membership program, which will ensure shipment of every coin in the collection straight to the purchaser’s residence as soon as it becomes available. Collectors who have already begun amassing National Parks Quarters can also fill in the missing pieces of their collection through single-coin offerings and coin rolls available through Coins of America. For bullion-minded investors, the U.S. Mint has also taken the unique step of issuing each of the National Parks pieces in 5-ounce, .999 silver companions.

No matter which path you take, Coins of America has all the means you’ll need to make the National Parks Quarters a natural fit to your collection!
