Coins of America offers the $500 Bill B00272408 A, Federal Reverse B New York New York, Series f 1934 A. The $500 bill features William McKinley on the obverse and the words "Five Hundred Dollars" on the reverse. The bill was printed in 1928, 1934 and 1934A, and a small-size Gold Certificate in 1928. The Five Hundred Dollar Bill, like the other large denominations of United States currency, was last printed in 1945 and discontinued by the Federal Reserve in 1969. Large denominations are “technically” still legal tender but have now become part of the collectors market. Originally, large denominations were used to help facilitate large financial transactions, but with the institution of electronic transfer the need for large denominations became obsolete.
